Community-Based Mentoring Program

The Power of One

The Community-Based Mentoring Program pairs caring adults with students in grades 4 through 12 to provide guidance, encouragement, and support to help them become successful young adults, both in and out of school. The program strives to be a true reflection of the “ Power of One”. This means that we believe in the impact one caring adult mentor can have on a child's life. As a collective team with our school counselors, teachers, family members, and the community, together, we all play a role in motivating and engaging students in and out of school. The involvement of a community mentor can make a meaningful, lasting connection.

Studies have shown that mentoring relationships positively impact student achievement, self-esteem, and social-emotional learning. When students have mentors who believe in them, they are more liley to stay in school, set higher goals, and overcome obstacles. Mentoring provides students with a sense of belonging, instills resilience, and helps develop crucial life skills.

Community-Based Mentoring Program's work aligns to the Blueprint for the Future, our district's strategic plan:

  • Recruit, train, and retain volunteer mentors to support and serve as role models for students.
  • Provide support and resources that address academic and non-academic student needs and remove barriers to success.
  • Expose students to postsecondary and workforce readiness to ensure multiple pathways to success.
  • Provide support and resources to our parents and families to strengthen their engagement and involvement in their child's education and overall well-being.
  • Maintain fiscal responsibility by prioritizing investments in students while increasing funds through donations and fund-raising.
