Partee Elementary School

Located in the southern region of Gwinnett County in Snellville, Henry Partee Elementary opened in 1997 to relieve overcrowding within the Shiloh Cluster. The school was named for Henry “Sonny”Partee who was an educator in the very best tradition. Sonny Partee, a lifelong resident of the Snellville community, devoted over 30 years of his life to Gwinnett students and families. With a reputation as being strict, but caring, Sonny Partee was an educator, coach, and friend to all he encountered.

In its inaugural year, under the leadership of Principal Dr. Barbara Lunsford, Partee Elementary opened its doors to 527 students in grades K - 5, taught in 25 classrooms, and 50 charter staff members.

Dr. Lunsford led the school until her retirement in 2004. Lisa Harvin followed as principal, a position she held until April of 2008. At that time, Audrey Baptiste was appointed and served through 2010. Dr. LaVern Lynch Rush then took the helm as principal. Upon her retirement in 2014, Kimberly Dyer took the leadership post, serving until 2017 when Dr. Kelli McCain stepped into the leadership role.

In addition to changes in leadership, the school’s mascot has changed over time. The school colors of blue and green an the Panther mascot were changed to the Shiloh Cluster’s black and silver Generals

In 1997, the school’s community was a mix of rural farmland, working class, middle class, and upper middle class neighborhoods. As the Snellville community continues to expand, Partee Elementary continues to grow. The school serves a diverse student population, both economically and ethnically. In addition to kindergarten through fifth grade classes, the school provides special needs programs for preschoolers and school-age students. Partee students enjoy art, music, physical education, science, and writing; as well as weekly opportunities to integrate media and technology into their learning. In addition to the school’s focus on academics, Partee provides students with a broad range of activities— from robotics, chess, and film to the school’s Distinguished Gentlemen and Ladies clubs.
