Social Emotional Learning
The Office of Social Emotional Learning works with schools and cross-divisional district teams, to help foster a culture of community, care, and belonging in each of our schools. The office supports student and adult learning in five core areas: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship building and responsible decision-making, creating a strong foundation for positive school culture and our multi-tiered system of support. Being well-versed in the research that states adults have a significant role in modeling and teaching social-emotional skills to students, the office provides ongoing professional learning opportunities for all GCPS employees, both certified and classified, as well as information for parents and community members to further develop our adults' awareness of social-emotional skills and the integration and use of social-emotional learning strategies with our students. Direct student support is provided through the office's oversight of the district's advisement and peer leader programs, where a strong focus is placed on creating a positive school culture and developing the five social-emotional learning competencies. With a strong intentional focus on supporting our students and staff, we are aiming to engage and support the full school community to create safe, positive, equitable, and welcoming learning environments for all students.
