Gwinnett County Public Schools

The Georgia Department of Education has released the list of AP Honors Schools and 23 Gwinnett County public high schools made one or more of the lists. Several Gwinnett schools were recognized in more than one category. Mountain View High made the list in six of the seven categories in which it is eligible while Archer High, Brookwood High, Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology, Mill Creek High, North Gwinnett High, Parkview High, and Peachtree Ridge High schools made the list in five of the seven categories in which they are eligible.

Dr. Clay Hunter, Gwinnett County Public Schools’ (GCPS) Associate Superintendent for Curriculum and Instructional Support, says the recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the district’s educators. “The latest achievements across our high schools are a direct result of our teachers’ commitment to knowing what College Board expects our students to know and be able to do,” Dr. Hunter says. “The achievements also reflect the efforts of our faculty and staff to encourage students to take advantage of Advanced Placement courses.”

AP exams are administered by the College Board, which also administers the SAT. AP courses are one of several ways Georgia students can access college-level learning at the high school level. Students who earn a 3, 4, or 5 on an AP exam may receive college credit. The 2022 AP Honor Schools were named in eight categories, based on the results of 2021 AP courses and exams.

“I think that it is important to note that research shows that one of strongest predictors of student success in college is taking AP courses and scoring at least at 2 out of 5 on the exam,” Dr. Hunter says. “With this in mind, our students, parents, teachers, and administrators have established a tradition of focusing on access to Advanced Placement courses for students across all demographic groups. We also need to recognize the efforts of our students who have sacrificed time and put forth great effort to show mastery of the rigorous standards developed by College Board.”
