GCPS Responds to State Superintendent’s Decision Regarding AP Course

Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) received approval from the State Board of Education to pilot the Advanced Placement (AP) African American Studies course in the 2023-2024 school year. Students who successfully completed the course were awarded the appropriate credit.

Inclusive learning and play are alive at Cooper Elementary School. The school recently unveiled a new playground that serves the needs of nearly 20 percent of its student population. The new playground is safe and accessible for students with physical challenges to have a fun and equitable recess experience.

The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 29, 2024.

Gwinnett County School Police (GCSP) and 12 Gwinnett County public schools hosted an event for Teen Driving Week promoting safe driving and driving habits. Several schools partnered with outside groups like AAA, Dacula Allstate Insurance, and the Scheiderich Agency.

 Two Gwinnett schools earn sportsmanship award

Six local high schools in Georgia earned the Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award, presented by Jackson EMC. Of the six, GCPS' Dacula High School and Duluth High School were recognized.

Inclement Weather Procedures

GCPS’ Grounds Maintenance Department has been on a mission to revive playgrounds around our community. They have now transformed over 15 playgrounds in the district.

School of the Arts (SOTA) at Central Gwinnett High School is hosting a pre-audition workshop on November 2 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The workshop is designed to help students learn about the SOTA audition experience and provide information for all families and students interested in applying.

September 29. 2023 Celia Ayenesazan, a Special Education teacher at Hull Middle School, has earned recognition as an EcoRise Teacher Ambassador. The EcoRise Teacher Ambassador Program honors experienced leaders in sustainability education who exhibit an unwavering commitment to elevate youth voices, expand educational programs, advance systems change, and build a thriving organization committed to climate justice.

November 29, 2022 The state released its 2022 College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) reports for Georgia schools. Gwinnett County’s public schools continue to score above state averages on the CCRPI Index.

Clarification and Adjustments to the Implementation of Policy JCDI

November 11, 2021 On Friday, November 5, Gwinnett County Public Schools Chief Information Officer (CIO) Frankie Elmore was honored as a finalist for the 2021 Georgia CIO of the Year ORBIE Awards.

November 10, 2021 Huyen Pham, a former Northbrook Middle School student who now attends Peachtree Ridge High School, has been named the 2021 NAPT (National Association for Pupil Transportation) National School Bus Safety Week Poster Contest winner.

September 22, 2021 For the third year in a row, Nury Crawford, the director of GCPS’ Community-Based Mentoring Program-Hispanic Girls Priority, has been named one of the 50 Most Influential Latinos in Georgia by the Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (GHCC).

August 19, 2021 Alcova Elementary School, Jackson Elementary School, Northbrook Middle School, Osborne Middle School, Mill Creek High School, and Paul Duke STEM High School have been awarded a combined total of nearly $50,000 by the Bosch Community Fund (BCF).
