Recently, our partners at the American Heart Association (AHA) surprised students and staff at the Top 10 Schools.
Brookwood Elementary was number one after raising more than $23,135 for the mission and having 426 students registered online for their heart-healthy challenge to learn Hands-Only CPR and the warning signs of a stroke!! This was their highest year of engagement ever after their previous year of raising just over $12,600.

The Kids Heart Challenge provides schools, their students and families with year-round heart-healthy resources and activities such as Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) activities, anti-vaping and anti-tobacco resources, education resources on blood sugar, blood pressure, sleep, and even resources/activities around getting enough physical activity.
American Heart Association’s biggest goal is to empower families to learn and know Hands-Only CPR and the Warning Signs of a Stroke for free by registering online and viewing the AHA's Two-Minute Video through Finn’s Mission. More than 70% of cardiac events happen outside the hospital, and providing Hands-Only CPR can double or triple a person’s chance of survival. The American Heart Association partners with GCPS schools because the hope is that every student and family will walk away from their school’s Kids Heart Challenge knowing what to do if a cardiac emergency happens around them.
Congratulations to the top 10 schools, the 537 students who learned Hands-Only CPR, and the 500 students who learned the warning signs of a stroke and the dangers of vaping. Thank you, American Heart Association, for your continued partnership.
