Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS), the largest school system in Georgia, will open its newest school, Seckinger High School, in August. The Artificial Intelligence-themed high school will be part of the district’s first themed cluster. In addition, several schools will also begin the 2022-23 school year with new additions and improvements to existing buildings. The additional classrooms and other improvement projects are part of the district’s comprehensive capital program—funded by the Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (E-SPLOST) and General Obligation (G.O.) bonds approved by voters—that provides learning environments focused on the needs of today’s learners.

• Gwinnett’s newest theme high school is named after Daniel Seckinger, a former Gwinnett County Board of Education member.
• It offers a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum, through the lens of artificial intelligence.

The new high school facility will include:

• 538,557 square feet of learning space for students
• 144 classrooms
• Dance, drama, band, orchestra, and choral classrooms
• Chemistry, Engineering, and STEM labs
• Computer, CADD, and MIDI labs
• Computer Art and other Art Rooms

Additions/Renovations for the 2022-23 School Year:

• Jones Middle School – A new 2-story addition of 89,341 square feet consisting of 35 classrooms and 20,667 square feet of renovation work in existing space.
• Middle School STEM/Engineering Lab Projects - STEM/Engineering lab projects were completed at Berkmar MS, Creekland MS, Grace Snell MS, Moore MS, Radloff MS, and Twin Rivers MS.
• Artificial Turf - Artificial turf installation will be completed for this fall season at six high schools - Grayson HS, Discovery HS, Parkview HS, Peachtree Ridge HS, Lanier HS, and Berkmar HS.
• Track Surfacing - New track surfaces will be installed following turf installation at Peachtree Ridge HS, Grayson HS, Lanier HS, and Berkmar HS. The track at Meadowcreek HS will also be removed and replaced later this fall.
• Asphalt Paving - New asphalt paving was completed in parking lots and driveways at Peachtree ES and Jackson ES.
• Roofing Replacement - Roofing systems were replaced on buildings at Creekland MS and Crews MS.
• Theater Improvements - New theater seating is being installed at Lanier HS, Meadowcreek HS, Norcross HS, Peachtree Ridge HS, and Shiloh HS.
• Interior Renovations - Renovation work was done over the summer at Dacula ES and Dacula MS.
• North Metro Academy of Performing Arts - Renovation work was completed at Peachtree ES to accommodate the relocation of the North Metro Academy of Performing Arts.
• HVAC Replacements - Using CARES ACT Funds, 53 new Roof Top HVAC units were purchased to be installed in 19 schools. This work will be performed when the units arrive.

In 2022-23, Gwinnett County Public Schools will operate 142 schools.

• 81 elementary schools (grades K–5)
• 29 middle schools (grades 6–8)
• 24 high schools (grades 9–12), including 20 cluster high schools, Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology; Paul Duke STEM HS; McClure Health Science HS; and Phoenix HS (open campus school, grades 10–12, with a satellite campus at Sugarloaf Mills)
