BOE Highlights: November 17 Board Meeting

In other board news…
Eight Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) students from four GCPS schools were recognized for their performance on the Advanced Placement (AP) exam. Macy Felton and Meghan Patel of Brookwood High School, Seohyun Park and Andrew Zeng of the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology, Shayla Kelley and Angela Xu of Paul Duke STEM High School, and Katie Hwang and Negar Oromi of Peachtree Ridge High School were honored by the board for earning a perfect score on the AP Exams in May 2022. The students honored received the top score of 5 and were among an elite group of students in the world to earn every point possible on an AP Exam, receiving the maximum score on each portion of the exam.

In addition, the Board recognized several GCPS schools for receiving industry certification. An “Industry Certified” program represents the apex of program quality. Only those programs that have successfully undergone rigorous reviews by leaders from business and industry are recognized with this distinction. This program is a joint effort between the Georgia Department of Education and Hometown Health. Industry certification provides many benefits for the student, the school, and the community. Most importantly, certification shows that a program is contributing to the development of a highly-skilled future workforce. Schools that pursue industry certification receive a special grant provided by the Georgia Legislature and are certified for a five-year period. Shiloh High School received industry certification in Health Science, Maxwell High School of Technology earned industry certification in Graphic Design,  and Meadowcreek High School earned industry certification in Audio, Visual, Technology and Film.
