Mirela Kimbrough, a Brookwood High School German Teacher, has been named the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) 2021 German Embassy Teacher of the Year. The Embassy recognizes up‐and‐coming German teachers for excellence in teaching, creativity, and outstanding dedication.
Dr. Jon Valentine, Gwinnett County Public Schools’ (GCPS) Director of Foreign Language, is proud of Kimbrough and the work she is doing. “Congratulations are in order for Mirela Kimbrough on receiving the 2021 German Embassy Teacher of Excellence Award,” Dr. Valentine said. “Every GCPS world languages teacher is a rock star, making a real difference in the lives of their students. But today is a day to celebrate one of the best of the best of the best!”
Kimbrough is one of only three teachers nationwide to receive the award. She, along with the other winners, will be recognized at a virtual presentation on November 20, and will take part in a two-week professional development course in Germany, gaining fresh and exciting perspectives that support classroom teaching.
“As the award indicates, Kimbrough is very talented and students at Brookwood High School are lucky to have her,” Dr. Valentine said.
