On October 16, Bus Driver Appreciation Day celebrates GCPS drivers and monitors and coincides with National School Bus Safety Week, observed October 16-October 20. This annual observance is a heartfelt tribute to the dedicated bus drivers and monitors who ensure the safe transportation of our GCPS students to and from school. Our local schools and transportation supervisors go above and beyond to acknowledge the relentless commitment of these professionals. They understand that these unsung heroes play a crucial role in our students' daily journeys, providing a safe and comfortable environment.
GCPS employs approximately 1,600 bus drivers and 180 bus monitors, who each work to ensure the safe transportation of approximately 128,000 students to-and-from school each day. These dedicated professionals play a critical role in supporting our students' educational journeys, ensuring they arrive safely, on time, and in the right frame of mind to learn. On Bus Driver Appreciation Day, the school district acknowledges their exceptional contributions and unwavering commitment to our students' safety.
