On October 21, the Community-Based Mentoring Program (CBMP) hosted their recurring Super Saturday event. The event hosted parents, mentors, and mentees for an informative and fun event that encouraged attendees to engage with each other. They provided meaningful activities and workshops for mentors to meet the families they would be working with to build a foundation of trust.
Bryan James, a mentor, was impressed with the event's turnout. “The mentor breakout was thoughtful, highly educational, fostered an affinity group, and support. The mentor feedback at the end of the session provided an opportunity for the mentors to contribute to the success of the program,” he says. Parents attended parent-focused workshops, one of which was led by Dr. Marika Long, counselor at Couch Middle. Robin Horsley, a grandmother, says she is thankful for the community that CBMP provides. “I came here from New Jersey, and my family is still there. So, I am doing this [raising a child] by myself. After participating in this event, I know I am not in this alone. This program benefits the whole community,” she shares.
