The Georgia Department of Education has released the Advanced Placement (AP) Honors Schools list, and 21 Gwinnett County public high schools made one or more of the lists. Several Gwinnett schools were recognized in more than one category. Paul Duke STEM High School made the list in all seven categories in which it was eligible.

DeNelle WestGwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) chief learning officer, is proud of the district’s schools. “Gwinnett County Public Schools is honored to recognize the incredible academic accomplishments of our schools through their AP Honors recognition - specifically, several of our high schools receiving this national status,” West shares, “We look forward to formally congratulating each of our schools in a future Board meeting.”

AP exams are administered by the College Board, which also administers the SAT. AP courses are one of several ways Georgia students can access college-level learning at the high school level. Students who earn a 3, 4, or 5 on an AP exam may receive college credit. The 2024 AP Honor Schools were named in eight categories based on the results of 2023 AP courses and exams.

“Being designated as an AP Honor School marks a remarkable achievement, underscoring a school’s unwavering dedication to fostering academic excellence and offering rigorous coursework,” says Dr. Keena Ryals-JenkinsGCPS’ director of Accelerated Programs & Gifted Education. “AP curriculum empowers high school students to engage with college-level material and accrue valuable college credits. These courses not only intellectually challenge students but also equip them with the essential skills needed for higher education. The distinction of an AP honor school is earned through a combination of stellar performance on AP exams and a diverse array of AP offerings. Schools honored in this manner exemplify a steadfast commitment to providing enriching academic opportunities, ensuring students are well-prepared for the rigors of college and beyond. I extend my heartfelt pride to all our schools for their dedication and hard work.”
