Gwinnett County Public Schools’ (GCPS) teacher induction program is one of the best in the state, according to the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE). After a thorough review of GCPS’ Certified Teacher Induction Program, the GaDOE rated the program at an “optimized” level. This rating indicates that the program has excelled in every component and fully embodies best practices, demonstrating its high proficiency.
The GaDOE defines a high-quality induction program as a comprehensive, coherent, sustainable program that supports retention, and the induction phase leader’s, teacher’s, and their mentor’s growth, thereby increasing student learning. The purpose of the GaDOE Induction Guidance is to provide Georgia districts and schools guidance in the creation, implementation, and sustainability of high-quality induction programs.
“This prestigious rating reflects our commitment to providing exceptional support and development for our new teachers,” GCPS Chief Human Resources Officer Cathy Hardin says. “At GCPS, we prioritize the growth and success of our educators, recognizing that their achievements directly impact our students’ learning experiences. The ‘Optimized Level’ rating validates our comprehensive approach to teacher induction, which includes robust mentoring, ongoing professional development, and a strong support network. We are proud of our staff’s dedication and hard work in creating an environment where new teachers can thrive. This recognition motivates us to continue striving for excellence in all aspects of our educational programs.”
In recognition of the district’s outstanding work, GCPS will be awarded a GaDOE digital certification seal symbolizing high-quality support for new teachers. In addition, the GaDOE has invited GCPS to mentor other districts seeking certification and/or serving as a member of the state’s Certified Teacher Induction Program review team.
