Gwinnett County Public Schools

Nearly two dozen Gwinnett County public schools have been recognized by the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) for their Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) programs for the 2022- 2023 school year. PBIS is an evidence-based, data-driven framework proven to reduce disciplinary incidents, increase a school’s sense of safety, and support improved academic outcomes. It guides the selection, integration, and implementation of the best evidence-based behavioral practices for improving student behavior outcomes. PBIS encourages positive behaviors with recognition for those students who exhibit appropriate school conduct.

The GaDOE recognizes schools for supporting a positive school climate each year by implementing the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework. The purpose of the recognition system is to identify schools that exemplify best practices in the implementation of PBIS.

PBIS supports schools, districts, and states to build systems capacity for implementing a multi-tiered approach to social, emotional, and behavioral support. PBIS provides an operational framework for achieving these outcomes. More than 1,400 Georgia schools and 27,000 nationwide have been trained in PBIS.
