Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) has been recognized nationally for its commitment to student data privacy, earning the Trusted Learning Environment (TLE) Mini Seals for Classroom and Professional Development Practices from the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN).
The CoSN TLE Seal is a distinction awarded to school districts that demonstrate robust privacy policies and practices safeguarding student information. Implemented across five core practice areas—Leadership, Business, Data Security, Professional Development, and the Classroom—the TLE Seal Program ensures high standards in protecting student data privacy. The new TLE Mini Seal Program provides districts, like GCPS, targeted recognition and guidance on privacy practices within specific areas before advancing to the full TLE privacy framework.
GCPS Executive Director of Data Governance, Dr. Debbie Durrence, says implementing security practices around student data is a top priority. “Maintaining the privacy of the data we are entrusted to hold in Gwinnett County Public Schools is a critical activity for every member of the organization,” Dr. Durrence shares. “This recognition demonstrates the district’s commitment to keeping our students’ data safe while maximizing opportunities for each and every student.”
GCPS is a prominent participant in the TLE Seal Program in Georgia, showcasing the state’s commitment to safeguarding student data. The CoSN TLE Seal is the sole privacy framework tailored specifically for school systems. Earning this seal signifies GCPS’ measurable steps in implementing, maintaining, and enhancing organization-wide student data privacy practices, with ongoing validation through a reapplication process every two years.
