Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) has been named one of the nation’s Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) for the 17th year. The award program recognizes and celebrates outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students, and community leaders who have made music education part of a well-rounded education. Designations are made to districts and schools demonstrating an exceptionally high commitment and access to music education.
GCPS Director of Fine Arts David DuBose speaks to the district’s commitment to music education, “The continued recognition of being named one of the 'Best Communities for Music Education' in the country is a reflection on our stakeholders and staff for ensuring that quality opportunities exist for all of our students and that the fine arts are supported with quality facilities, equipment, and funding,” he shares.
The BCME program evaluates schools and districts based on funding, staffing of highly qualified teachers, commitment to standards, community support, participation, and access to music instruction. The NAMM Foundation, with the assistance of researchers at The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas, evaluates participants on these factors.
