WHAT: Lovin Elementary cafeteria food scrap collection for delivery to onsite compost bins- as part of the Compost Connectors program at metro Atlanta schools, Lovin Elementary fifth graders are diverting food waste and creating healthy compost for growing food at gardens and farms
 

WHEN: 10:30AM - 12:30PM Friday, September 9, 2022
 

WHERE: Lovin Elementary School 1705 New Hope Road, Lawrenceville, GA 30045. Check in at the main office.

WHY:

  • The Compost Connectors program provides students with hands-on learning of the full compost cycle- from collecting scraps and delivering to the bins to creating rich compost for garden beds- then planting, harvesting, and eating what they have grown.
  • Students participating in the program have expressed enthusiasm for careers in agriculture.
  • Composting lowers greenhouse gases by improving carbon sequestration in the soil and by preventing methane emissions
