Gwinnett Students Take Top Honors at 76th Georgia Science & Engineering Fair

      Seven science projects from Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) students will soon compete against projects from more than 80 countries at the Regeneron International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF). The competition will take place May 11-17 in Los Angeles, Ca. Regeneron ISEF is the world’s largest pre-college science and engineering competition, boasting more than $750,000 in awards and scholarships.  

 

The following students will be competing at this year’s Regeneron ISEF:

Jack HunsakerOptimizing Traffic Systems Through Simulation and Queuing Theory  

Keshvee Sekhda IdentiCan: The App That Detects Cancer by Artificial Intelligence (team composed of students from two different high schools)

 

Paul Duke STEM High School

Rohan Kumar & William Susskind, DoorBully: A System to Secure Schools Against Active Threats 

Tatyana McVayThe Development of an Automatic Laser Beam Aligner

 

Lanier High School

     GCPS students earned more than 40 awards, including the Pinnacle Award, last month at the 76th Georgia Science & Engineering Fair (GSEF). The Pinnacle Award is given to the top project in each division. In the middle school division, Sirish Subash of Crews Middle School earned the Pinnacle Award for his PestiSCAND: An AI-Based Handheld Pesticide Detector project. In the high school division, Rohan Kumar and William Susskind of Paul Duke STEM High School earned the Pinnacle Award for their project titled DoorBully: A System to Secure Schools Against Active Threats. This is the second year in a row that both the middle and the high school division Pinnacle Award honors were earned by GCPS students.
