Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) is pleased to announce that Lilburn Elementary School has been named as one of the schools progressing in the NASA ARISS selection process for the January-June 2024 period. Among the many ARISS Education Proposals received during the recent submission window, a total of 11 proposals have been accepted to advance in the planning phase for hosting a scheduled amateur radio contact with the crew on the International Space Station (ISS).
The primary objective of the ARISS program is to actively involve young individuals in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) activities, fostering their curiosity, and increasing their awareness of space communications, radio communications, space exploration, and related fields of study and career opportunities.
The ARISS program foresees that NASA will provide scheduling opportunities for the chosen host organizations within the United States. Currently, these organizations are diligently working on developing an acceptable equipment plan that demonstrates their capability to successfully execute the ham radio contact. Once the ARISS operations team approves their equipment plan, the final selected schools and organizations will be scheduled according to their availability and flexibility, aligning with the scheduling opportunities offered by NASA from January through June 2024.
