On February 25, 2022, we shared with our community that GCPS will follow the CDC mask guidelines to help communities decide what prevention steps to take based on the latest data.
The latest CDC update released on July 14, 2022, shows that Gwinnett County is now experiencing "High" community transmission of COVID-19. As a result, masks are required for staff in all GCPS facilities, effective Saturday, July 16.
For visitors and students, masks are strongly encouraged.
During levels of high transmission in the community, the CDC also encourages individuals in Gwinnett County to:
- Wear a mask indoors in public
- Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines
- Get tested if you have symptoms
- Additional precautions may be needed for people at high risk for severe illness
Under the district's COVID-19 protocols, community transmission levels must be maintained at the "Moderate" or "Low" level for two consecutive weeks before district mask guidance transitions to "Strongly Recommended." When a change occurs, staff will be notified via School Messenger.
In addition to masks, Gwinnett schools and facilities will continue to use a layered mitigation strategy (promoting vaccination for those who are eligible, continuing use of enhanced ventilation practices, promoting proper respiratory etiquette and encouraging regular handwashing, emphasizing the need for individuals to stay home if they are sick, continuing our Health Response Teams process, and continuing with cleaning and disinfecting practices in schools and on buses). These practices will help to promote healthy and safe practices for our students, families, staff, and visitors.
