Parents of students receiving special education services in Gwinnett are invited to attend an informational session on Thursday, December 8, part of the Gwinnett County Parent Mentors Present” series. Behavior specialists of GCPS’ Special Education Department will present “Behavior Strategies to Help Parents.” Managing behaviors at home can be very difficult for parents and caregivers. This presentation will provide families with behavior strategies to employ in the home environment, helping to provide consistency in behavior interventions and strategies across the home and school environments. In this session, we will identify behaviors that are perceived as problematic, the four main functions of behavior, and some tips and techniques for addressing behaviors.
This monthly learning series is designed for families of children with disabilities, and presented by the Gwinnett County Parent Mentors in collaboration with GCPS' Special Education Department staff and community leaders and organizations. Spanish interpretation services are available.
Two sessions will be held for families on December 8. An in-person session will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the J. Alvin Wilbanks Instructional Support Center, located at 437 Old Peachtree Rd., NW, in Suwanee, in the Central Gwinnett Room (2.111) in Building 200.
