On Thursday, May 11Gwinnett County Parent Mentors, in collaboration with Gwinnett County Public Schools’ (GCPS) Special Education Department, will host: “Self-Determination – What is it and How can I Support my Child”. Self-Determination is the belief that all individuals, with and without disabilities, have the right to direct their own lives. Self-determination skills include self-advocacy, self-awareness, goal setting, choice making, and striving for independence.

This information session is highly recommended for parents of students at all levels (elementary, middle, and high school). Presented by Lisa Divers, GCPS Instructional Specialists, participants in this session, will learn how to help their children develop self-determination skills at home and at school in order to maximize their growth and potential as they transition to adulthood.
