Philip Peavy, Paul Duke STEM High School Computer Science teacher and Technology Student Association (TSA) Advisor, was recently awarded the Tommy Pitchford and Jim Coffey Inspirational Teacher Award from Georgia TSA. The award was named after two inspirational educators who shaped and supported Georgia TSA. For the past three decades, this award recognizes the advisor of a chapter that has shown excellence through their placement.

The recipient of the award is the advisor of the chapter that has received the most points in the Outstanding Chapter Award and is active in TSA events. Philip Peavy, GCPS’ 2021 High School Teacher of the Year and Finalist for the district’s Teacher of the Year honor, has been a TSA advisor for seven years and started the Paul Duke STEM chapter four years ago. He serves on the National Technology Student Association Competition Management Team where he helps to develop and update competitions for students to be relevant and current in the area of computer science. He also supports the overall events of the National TSA Conference.

“It is an honor to be recognized as an advisor for our TSA Chapter. I get to work with such amazing students each day in our chapter. We started our chapter with about 15 members and now have more than 60 active members. My officers and student leaders have also stepped up the past year. They have worked so hard and provided great leadership. I'm inspired to work along with them and lead them throughout the year,” Peavy says.
