A group of McClure Health Science High School students were recently celebrated at Piedmont Eastside Medical Center in Snellville, GA, for completing an internship program with the medical facility. This inaugural cohort of students formed part of an initiative between McClure Health Science High School and Piedmont Eastside Medical Center to empower aspiring healthcare professionals within Gwinnett County.
The ten juniors and seniors from McClure Health Science High gained hands-on experience in various hospital units, including the medical-surgical floors, the laboratory, phlebotomy, the emergency department, and the Health Information Management department.
McClure Health Science High Principal Nicole Mosley says the partnership is shaping students’ professional trajectories. “We take immense pride in the accomplishments of our staff, students, and families, who have contributed to the strong partnership between Piedmont Hospital, Eastside, and McClure Health Science High School,” Mosley shares, “Our collaboration is an excellent example of our mission to advance the meaning and purpose in each student’s life by providing relevant college and career pathways opportunities.”
Throughout their six-week internship, students immersed themselves in diverse healthcare tasks, from mastering blood work techniques to shadowing clinical staff and assisting with patient care techs. This experience complemented their academic pursuits and instilled an appreciation for real-world healthcare dynamics. McClure Health Science High School’s partnership with Piedmont Eastside is an innovative collaboration that aims to bridge the gap between education and real-world application, offering invaluable opportunities for students and the hospital.
