GCPS is piloting a new tool, Securly Classroom, to help students focus on learning while using their GCPS-issued student device in class. The platform allows teachers to customize access to digital content and view student progress in real-time, helping to ensure that each and every student’s learning needs are met.
Securly Classroom only is accessible during school hours and promotes engagement by:
- Sharing the teacher’s screen directly with student screens;
- Identifying student work to model in class;
- Pushing specific resources to the whole class, small groups, or individual students;
- Allowing students to indicate when they need help by virtually raising their hand;
- Monitoring student progress on student devices from the teacher’s computer;
- Locking student screens and closing unneeded tabs on student screens; and
- Limiting access to sites that specifically support learning during class time.
Securly will only run on GCPS-issued devices through a Chrome extension and only during school hours. Teachers will launch their class session and only have access to student devices during their class.
