The 2023 All-State Art Symposium and Art Throwdown accepted eight students from Gwinnett County high schools. The annual All-State Art Symposium is dedicated to promoting and recognizing the creative talents of high school students from Georgia's school districts.

Mr. David Dubose, director of Fine Arts for GCPS said, “The juried competition reflects the incredible talent and learning our students develop in GCPS. The symposium offers them a unique experience to further develop skills, and cultivate appreciation of their work and others, while engaging in cultural opportunities.” He added, “GCPS commitment to the arts allows our students, K-12th grade, the opportunity to engage in culturally relevant learning activities, develop advanced skills which provides the foundation of success in various work-related fields and disciplines, and cultivate a lifelong appreciation for the arts.”

The eight students and their artwork were selected from more than 2,000 entries from 104 schools across the state with only 50 pieces of art accepted by the panel of judges. The exhibition will take place during the month of February, with a closing reception on March 3 at Columbus State University’s Department of Art.

In addition to the exhibit and competition, the All-State Art Symposium will also provide several workshops for students and an opportunity to participate in an Art Throwdown. The symposium's workshops, juried exhibition and other events provide high school students with cultural opportunities, develop advanced studio skills, and cultivate aesthetic appreciation while recognizing excellence in high school art education. Through the dynamic symposium, students, parents, and teachers celebrate creativity and the symbiotic relationship of art and society.
