Teaching and Learning
Our Core Business is Teaching and Learning
As one of the largest districts in the nation, GCPS maintains a state-of-the-art network for instruction and instructional support. From math applications to adaptive technology, from language arts programs to digital projectors, and from bus routing software to lunchroom point-of-sale services, the Division of Teaching and Learning supports GCPS every school day.
Gwinnett County Public Schools’ core business is teaching and learning. The goal of the Division of Teaching and Learning is to help all students reach their learning potential. Teachers and leaders focus on providing curriculum, instruction, and assessments that are rigorous, integrated, and aligned.
Quality-Plus Teaching Strategies
The Quality-Plus Teaching Strategies (QPTS), originally developed by Gwinnett County Public Schools educators in 2006, identify the evidence-based pedagogical strategies supported by the district for use in every classroom. Quality-Plus Teaching Strategies are strategies that lead to optimal student learning.
Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS)
Gwinnett’s curriculum for grades K–12 is called the Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) and is aligned to the state-adopted Georgia Standards of Excellence in Language Arts (K-12), Mathematics (K-12), and literacy standards for Science, Social Studies, and Technical Education for middle and high school students.
Special Education and Psychological Services
Gwinnett County Public School's Department of Special Education and Psychological Services is an award-winning program focused on meeting the special needs of individual students. In its quest to provide "quality learning through quality education for all student," the Department of Special Education and Psychological Services provides a wide range of services, including assessment and interventions.
