School Highlights
The following school highlights showcase how Pinckneyville Middle School is fulfilling Gwinnett County Public School's four strategic priorities of Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. Visit the School Profile Dashboard to find more detailed data on our school.
- Jessie Nordhielm, 8th grade Science teacher, was selected by her peers as Pinckneyville’s Teacher of the Year for 2022-23.
- Band: Both symphonic band and symphonic winds scored superior ratings at GMEA large group performance evaluation. We were pleased that 18 Band students were chosen for District Honor Band. In April, the symphonic winds earned the gold award and were selected as the sweepstakes and grand champions at Southern Star Music Festival. Twelve students scored high enough to attend the state-level auditions. Four students were selected for the GMEA All-State Band, and one student was selected as an alternate for the GMEA All-State Band.
- Chorus: Our Chorus department had a terrific year of growth, gaining 80 new members in the 6th grade. Other memorable highlights include our students’ annual performances, including the PMS Black History Night. In October, twenty students were recognized when they were selected to perform in Honor Choir in Athens, Ga. At Large Group Performance Evaluation, our chorus received an overall rating of Excellent; at the Southern Star Music Festival, we received an overall rating of Silver.
- Orchestra: Our orchestra students performed in the Norcross Cluster Orchestra Concert at Paul Duke STEM High School and earned Excellent ratings at the Large Group Performance Evaluation sponsored by Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA).
- International Baccalaureate: Pinckneyville Middle School completed its 19th year as a Middle Years Programme (MYP) International Baccalaureate (IB) World School in 2022–23. Students can continue their IB studies at Norcross High School.
- Artificial Turf Field: Working with community members, Pinckneyville was able to secure funds to install a new artificial turf field and running track. The school held a ribbon-cutting ceremony in May to dedicate the new field.
- Reflections: Students at every grade level earned recognition in the PTA-sponsored celebration of the arts and literature, with 1st and 2nd place in music, photography, visual arts, and film.
- Soccer: Our girl's soccer team was the reigning Gwinnett County champion for the 7th year, placing 1st in the county. The girl's soccer team has been undefeated over the last seven years.
- World Languages: Students at Pinckneyville Middle School receive three full years of World Language instruction in French or Spanish. Our International Baccalaureate program grants Students high school credit for these language courses.
- Pinckneyville Middle is a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) school. PBIS encourages positive behaviors with recognition for students who exhibit appropriate school conduct.
