School Highlights
The following school highlights showcase how Dyer Elementary School is fulfilling Gwinnett County Public School's four strategic priorities of Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. Visit the School Profile Dashboard to find more detailed data on our school.
- All students at Dyer Elementary School get the opportunity to take a Computer Science special. In these classes, they learn the building blocks of how computers work, laying the foundation for further coursework that they will be able to take in middle school.
- Dyer Elementary School is one of two schools in the district that has added a Guided Play Space (GPS) for primary students. Our Guided Play Space allows students to express their autonomy within a prepared environment and with adult scaffolding. Students are able to meet objectives through play while developing social-emotional skills and learning to work with one another.
- Joyful Learning was implemented during students' arrival in Kindergarten and 1st grade. This helps transition the student from the home to the learning environment through free choice activities. Joyful learning allows students to build relationships with their peers, practice collaborating and working through social conflict, and develop critical thinking skills. All of this is done in the classroom with adult guidance.
- Dyer Elementary was able to bring on a Parent Liaison to support our school families and bridge the gap between the home and school environment.
- Dyer hosted their annual STEAM Night with over 300 participants. Activities focused on critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaborative learning. Parents and students worked together to solve various science-related tasks. Students and parents look forward to this event and future scientists are built.
- Dyer Elementary and its PTO enriched the school with various programs and events such as Pastries with Parents, Father-Daughter Dance, STEAM Night, Fall Festival, Orff Ensemble, Chorus and Instrument Club, and Holiday Luncheon.
- Dyer Elementary's Media Team welcomed Carmen Deedy for a special author visit. Students were able to hear her talented storytelling, get autographed copies of her best sellers, and learn what it is like to be a published author.
- Dyer Elementary's staff continues engaging in professional learning to meet our goal of having 100% of our teachers certified in gifted and ESOL education. Several teachers completed this certification this year to bring us over 80% in both areas.
- Dyer Elementary takes pride in the school's culture. Dyer is a great place to learn and work because of the collaborative opportunities provided to our students, staff, and families.
- Dyer Elementary School was recognized by the Georgia Department of Education with Distinguished status for its implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) in the last school year. PBIS encourages positive behaviors with recognition for students who exhibit appropriate school conduct.
