School Highlights
The following school highlights showcase how Harris Elementary School is fulfilling Gwinnett County Public School's four strategic priorities of Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. Visit the School Profile Dashboard to find more detailed data on our school.
- Harris ES was recognized by the Georgia Department of Education as implementing PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) at the Operational level. Our schoolwide expectations included being safe, respectful, and responsible.
- Computer Science was offered to all students, allowing them to solve problems and think creatively. Coursework included coding and internet safety.
- Literacy continued to be a focus for all students. Our Book Mobile provided thousands of books to students during the school year and in the summer. Books were collected via donations from the community and local families. Brand new books were provided to all children attending our Literacy Night. We also celebrated Book Character Day and Literacy Week.
- For students needing additional support to master the Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum, we offered a variety of interventions: Response to Intervention (RTI) Program, Extended Learning Time, Early Intervention Program, and Saturday Intervention Programs. All students were supported with an online intervention program: Imagine Learning.
- Several clubs were offered to students to extend learning beyond the classroom. We offered chess club, guitar club, drawing club, chorus, Read, Deed and Run club, and robotics. Fifth-grade students also had the opportunity to serve as a Safety Patrol or on the Broadcast Team.
- There was a focus on Social Emotional Learning throughout the school as we implemented warm welcomes, engaging activities, and optimistic closings.
- School-sponsored events, like International Night, Literacy Night, and STEM Night, provided opportunities to build community and celebrate learning.
- The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) hosted a movie night, dance, and BINGO night to create family fun and community.
