Cooper ES - The Gift of Play

Inclusive learning and play are alive at Cooper Elementary School. The school recently unveiled a new playground that serves the needs of nearly 20 percent of its student population. The new playground is safe and accessible for students with physical challenges to have a fun and equitable recess experience. 

GCPS accepting applications for GEMS Oversight Committee

Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) is inviting parents and guardians, community members, and school district employees to apply for the GEMS Oversight Committee, a group of community and school system representatives charged with the annual review of the Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum standards. The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 29, 2024.

SkillsUSA National Signing Day

On Tuesday, May 7, Maxwell High School of Technology, SkillsUSA, and its partners Lowe’s, State Farm, and Constellation will celebrate students pursuing careers in skilled trades.

GCPS is committed to this effort, and we offer students the opportunity to gain unique learning experiences through our Special Schools. Seckinger High celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

Seckinger High School celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month through its “Mes de la Hispanidad” project. The project spotlighted the contributions and accomplishments of prominent Hispanic figures in the United States.

 ICYMI: National Teen Driver Safety Week

Gwinnett County School Police (GCSP) and 12 Gwinnett County public schools hosted an event for Teen Driving Week promoting safe driving and driving habits. Several schools partnered with outside groups like AAA, Dacula Allstate Insurance, and the Scheiderich Agency.

 Two Gwinnett schools earn sportsmanship award

Six local high schools in Georgia earned the Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award, presented by Jackson EMC. Of the six, GCPS' Dacula High School and Duluth High School were recognized.

Inclement Weather Procedures

As we enter the winter season it is important to know what to expect from GCPS in case of inclement weather. If weather conditions pose a potential safety concern, the decision to cancel school or delay opening might be made.

Lock Down Your Login – Use A Passphrase

Passwords are the most common way to prove our digital identity. We use passwords to access our work and home computers and email, online banking services, and social media accounts. If these passwords are not strong enough, systems and data are left vulnerable to attack. In fact, compromised passwords are the leading cause of security breaches.

 Playground Revamp!

GCPS’ Grounds Maintenance Department has been on a mission to revive playgrounds around our community. They have now transformed over 15 playgrounds in the district.

School of the Arts hosts workshop for interested students

School of the Arts (SOTA) at Central Gwinnett High School is hosting a pre-audition workshop on November 2 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The workshop is designed to help students learn about the SOTA audition experience and provide information for all families and students interested in applying.

Save the date: Café con la Familia

Hopkins Elementary School invites district families to “Café con la Familia” on Thursday, October 26, at 5:30 p.m. to share in a Spanish-language open community dialogue with our superintendent, Dr. Calvin J. Watts, district leaders, principals, assistant principals, and staff members who play crucial roles in shaping students’ educational journeys.

 Bus Driver Appreciation Day: Honoring our Heroes of the Road

On October 16, Bus Driver Appreciation Day celebrates GCPS drivers and monitors and coincides with National School Bus Safety Week, observed October 16-October 20. This annual observance is a heartfelt tribute to the dedicated bus drivers and monitors who ensure the safe transportation of our GCPS students to and from school.

National Teen Driver Safety Week

In Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS), we understand the challenge of letting your teen "hit the road." National Teen Driver Safety Week, from October 15 to October 21, is a great time to share safe driving habits with teens who are new drivers.

From September 18-22, we celebrated Community School Coordinators Week! The Community Schools for each cluster work collaboratively with students and families, connecting them with community partners who can provide the educational and recreational programs, support, and services they need to be successful. Gwinnett County Board of Education Town Hall Meetings

November 14, 2022 The Board of Education invites students, families, staff, and community members to have open-ended conversations with BOE district representatives. All town hall meetings are open to the public.

November is Georgia Apply to College Month

November 1, 2022 During the November college-going campaign, more than 250 Georgia colleges and universities waive application fees for high school seniors applying for enrollment for Fall 2023.

Clarification and Adjustments to the Implementation of Policy JCDI

While any major infraction (resulting in a consequence in Levels III through V) could result in a disciplinary tribunal depending on the circumstances of the situation, all infractions at a Level V response should be brought forward to a disciplinary tribunal.

Digital Citizenship Week (Oct. 17-21) is a great time for families to become partners in the effort to help our students become responsible digital citizens.

Need help with the cost of after school care?

The Childcare and Parent Services (CAPS) program, administered by the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL), helps parents access childcare so they can attend work, school, or training programs.
